About OpenSearch

OpenSearch was created in 2021 by Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a fork of the Elasticsearch and Kibana projects. AWS initiated the development of OpenSearch after Elastic NV changed the licensing of Elasticsearch and Kibana from open-source to a more restrictive license. The goal was to provide a truly open-source alternative that maintained compatibility with existing Elasticsearch APIs while fostering community-driven development and innovation.

Strengths of OpenSearch include its open-source nature, strong community support, compatibility with Elasticsearch APIs, and robust features for search and analytics. Weaknesses may involve potential challenges in migrating from other platforms and reliance on community contributions for development. Competitors include Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, and Splunk.
