About Storm

Storm was created in 2011 by Nathan Marz at BackType, a company later acquired by Twitter. It was developed to address the need for processing high-velocity data streams in real-time, allowing organizations to perform complex computations on data as it arrived. Storm became an open-source project and gained popularity for its ability to scale horizontally and process vast amounts of data efficiently.

Strengths of Storm included its ability to process data in real-time, scalability, and fault tolerance. Weaknesses involved complexity in setup and maintenance, as well as higher latency compared to some newer technologies. Competitors included Apache Flink, Apache Kafka Streams, and Apache Spark Streaming.

How to hire a Storm expert

A Storm expert must have skills in distributed systems and real-time data processing. Proficiency in Java or Clojure, which are commonly used for Storm development, is essential. Familiarity with message queuing systems like Apache Kafka and knowledge of cluster management tools such as Apache ZooKeeper are also important. Understanding of network protocols and experience with fault-tolerant system design further enhance expertise in Storm.
